From niche to mainstream

The way consumers are now choosing products and services is driving substantial change in the way businesses view sustainability. Sustainability has gone mainstream. A recent forecast by the respected business reporting company IBISWorld, highlighted that the fastest growing market segment across all segments was organic farming, tipped to grow by 15.1% in 2010 - 2011. This is no accident. Consumers, especially mothers with young children are demanding transparency across a broad range of product and service categories.

It's not just organic products that are seeing demand

Consumers across the market are increasingly preferring products and services that offer a higher level of transparency and sustainability. The LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) segment is one of the target markets we help our clients reach. Other Australian research

Findings from Australian research group Nielsen highlights the growth in demand is on the rise.
  • 68 per cent of consumers are willing to pay more for products from companies who support worthy causes concerned with the environment
  • Almost two-thirds saying they purposefully avoid specific companies because of concerns about their impact on people or society
  • Most important though are the 63 per cent who would like companies to explain more about the difference they are making in order to support them
This last bit of research “explain more” is the most important. It tells us that in order to earn the trust and support of either the B2C or B2B market segments, brands need to do a better job of communication — and that's how we help our clients.
